Welcome to Year Two! We have had such a busy start to the year and the children have settled well into their new classroom, routines and of course, learning! We are always available to discuss any questions you may have and it has been a pleasure to meet many parents already. We look forward to discussing your child's progress and achievements so far, at parents evening this week.
To name just a few of our exciting learning activities so far this term, we have been involved in making cork fish as part of Recycling Week, finding out which is the best material for the job to mop up water bottle spillages and using drama to explore the story of the Great Fire of London. The children have thoroughly enjoyed engaging in their learning activities, as you can see from the photos. A great start to the year!
What a brilliant start to our day today! The children shared some of their learning and achievements in our class assembly this morning. They spoke clearly and with confidence and overcame any nerves to present a range of cross-curricular learning to their audience. We were very proud of all the children. We were joined by parents and grandparents who were then welcomed to join our open lesson after the assembly in which we continued with our Art theme of exploring hot colours, linked to our topic 'Ignite'. What a busy, enjoyable morning!
As you can see from the photos above and below we had great fun exploring the properties of wax as part of our science activities today. We had been learning about how crayons were made and having discovered some of the properties of wax we then explored how the wax resisted the paint in our pictures.
What an exciting morning we had on Thursday when the firefighters from Wisbech visited us in Year 2. They answered our questions and then let us explore the fire engine and handle some of the equipment. The children asked some really good questions and the Watch Commander commended the class on their great behaviour. The firefighters were impressed with the children's knowledge of fire safety and helped us to extend our learning further.
Year 2 participated in some fantastic learning experiences linked directly to our topic on Monday.
The children handled a range of artefacts from the past and considered how appliances that use heat have changed over time. They could also clearly see how some parts of our homes have changed significantly, role-playing in a kitchen from the past and with characters from time gone by. What a great day!
Welcome to the Spring Term and a very Happy New Year to you all!
Year 2 have had a great start to the new term and came back to school ready for more exciting learning. We have spent lots of time outside this week, despite it being a a winter's week in January. We have observed closely the plant life which we usually pass by and been amazed at what is living just outside our classroom. This is part of of new topic 'Staying Alive' which is about caring for each other, animals and the plants around us.
This week Year Two started their swimming lessons at the Hudson pool and we were so impressed with their excellent behaviour and attitude towards their swimming activities. This week have also continued our study of the plant life around us, drawing carefully what we have found.
This week Year 2 have been focusing really hard on their reading of our key text based on 'Jack and the Beanstalk'. We will be sharing and enjoying some alternative versions of the story to help our writing too in the coming weeks. We are also looking more carefully at plants outside to draw them in more detail.
Year 2 have been busy planting beans this week under some different conditions, to learn more about germination. We will continue planting and growing over the term. We have started to look carefully at bulbs before planting our own. We have also had 3 great weeks of swimming so far. Please help us by naming all clothes, swimming costumes/shorts and towels, thank you.
