Do you need to apply?
Primary
If your child was born between 1 September 2017 and 31 August 2018, and you live in Cambridgeshire you need to apply for Reception for September 2022.
Junior school
If your child was born between 1 September 2014 and 31 August 2015, lives in Cambridgeshire and attends an infant school, they will need to make an application to transfer to Year 3 for September 2022.
Middle school
If your child was born between 1 September 2012 and 31 August 2013, lives in Cambridgeshire and attends a first school, they will need to make an application to transfer to Year 5 for September 2022.
In-year application
If you wish to apply for a school place that is not the schools year of entry within the school year (September 2021 to July 2022), please complete an in-year admission application
Before you apply for a school place
- Check you are applying to the correct council. If you are a Cambridgeshire resident you will make your application through the Cambridgeshire Admissions Team, even if you want to apply for a school outside of Cambridgeshire.
- Research your options, understand what a catchment school is and how it affects your application and school transport. Look at admissions data, school's inspection results and performance data.
- Make sure you read the 'First Steps' document. This will explain the application process from start to finish. The booklet also contains a list of all the Infant, Junior and Primary schools in the Cambridgeshire area, along with their allocation criteria.
If your application is incomplete, or incorrect, it could get delayed, or cancelled. You will need to confirm you have read and understood the 'First Steps' document before submitting your application.

Secondary school admissions - September 2022
You can apply for a school place from 10 September 2021.
- The deadline for secondary school applications is 31 October 2021.
- If you apply online by 31 October 2021 you will get an offer for a place on 1 March 2022 by email.
If you miss this deadline your child is much less likely to get a place at their preferred school.

- 31 October 2021 (midnight) - deadline for applications (national closing date)
- 1 March 2022 - Offers sent out to applicants who had submitted application by 31 October 2021
Late applications (second round)
- 1 November 2021 - Second round applications open
- 31 March 2022 (midnight) - deadline for second round applications
- 27 April 2022 - Offers sent out to applicants who had submitted applications from 1 November 2021 to 31 March 2022.
Late applications (as received)
- 27 April 2022 to 31 August 2022 - Applications received after 31 March 2022 will not be considered until the second round of offers have been sent out. They will be processed in order of date from when we receive them.

Applying to the correct local authority
Check you are applying to the correct council. If you are a Cambridgeshire resident you will make your application through the Cambridgeshire Admissions Team, even if you want to apply for a school outside of Cambridgeshire.
You will apply through Cambridgeshire County Council if you live in Cambridgeshire and:
- your child was born between 1 September 2010 and 31 August 2011, and you need to apply for a secondary school place for September 2022, or
- your child was born between 1 September 2008 and 31 August 2009 and you need to apply for an upper school place in another Local Authority for September 2022
